The South Korean industry started to improve and develop more and more rapidly in the late eighties and further in the nineties. Products became of higher standard and quality, demands to the equipment to produce them increased first slowly, later faster and more challenging.
Initially foreign made and imported CNC machine tools had been seen by Korean manufacturers as superior compared to the local made versions. However, the prices of such CNC machine tools required much higher investments.
Since 65 years ago, Hwacheon started to design and built machine tools. From the beginning, Hwacheon had been asked by Korean manufacturing companies to focus and to satisfy the growing hunger of the national industries to design and produce good and reliable CNC machine tools at an affordable price, long before other local manufacturer came into the picture.
With the growing demands from the South Korean industries for better quality CNC machine tools, the SIRIUS line had been created with the first machine introduced in 1980.
From there on, Hwacheon had been seen as the local frontrunner and supplier for quality CNC machine tools which had been an alternative to expensive foreign made CNC machine tools.
Over time, Hwacheon became a trusted supplier to local companies by listening and acknowledging the ever-changing manufacturing needs of the domestic manufacturers and industries. Especially within the rapidly improving Mould & Die industry, Hwacheon was seen as the preferred machine tool builder and supplier.
Today’s latest line up of Vertical Machining Centers is recognized as being superior to even the best in the market. The line-up from SIRIUS UM+ (X = 750mm) to SIRIUS UX (X = 1,500mm) provides superior technology in terms of overall machine design and built.

- The low-centered design further enhances the static accuracy of these machines.
- Supported by the BRIDGE Type structure they provide best rigidity and optimum dynamic.
- Every effort is made, to ensure vibrations are avoided or kept at a bare minimum. For example, the screw type conveyors at both sides of the table are operating in isolated exchangeable covers to avoid vibrations and heat disbursement to the machine mainframe.
- Control of heat, from inside and outside affecting the machines casting, is controlled and evenly disbursed by a special insulating material which is wrapped around the whole frame casting.
- The internal machining area is covered to protect the frame casting from heat generated by chips.
- The high quality and large dimensioned Roller Linear Guideways are mounted in wide distances to each other for optimum stability.
- A selection of various spindles is available for each machine size, making each machine as flexible to any application as possible.
- The built-in motor spindle, like the entire machine and the parts for it, is designed and made in-house by Hwacheon in South Korea.
- The spindle, the heart of any machine tool, is using the unique OIL-JET Lubrication system. Ensuring that application runs lasting even 24/7 at maximum speed are not an issue. Not only the heat is being controlled, but the used high quality ceramic bearings are operating at any given time in fresh and temperature controlled oil. This system assures, that heat is not only controlled but not created in the first place.
- All spindles (for SIRIUS-UM+; SIRIUS-UL+; SIRIUS-UZ) are standard with BBT-40 tooling system (SIRIUS-UX is BBT 50 or HSK-A100 with either 12,000 or 15,000 rpm with 30Kw power), optional available also HSK-A63 or CAT – Versions. They come with 37Kw power, available from 12-24,000rpm and from 221 to 303Nm torque. Each version providing highest performance during even the longest operational cycle times.
- On request and as an option, Hwacheon will provide magnetic tables which are built-in, designed in sections and individually controlled. No loss in Z-axis height, all cables built- in and not exposed. Providing easy and fast clamping with maximum clamping force and highest flexibility.
- For even higher accuracy the SIRIUS-UZ version is available. Designed with a shorter Z- axis (350mm) and lower column, it further enhances the rigidity and machining accuracy. For example, insert manufacturing for Mould & Die applications or very high precision parts.
- All Hwacheon machining centres are available as standard with a comprehensive package of individual Hwacheon designed software to either control temperature changes or to optimize the machine dynamics to individual application needs. A step towards Industry 4.0 is the Hwacheon M-Vision Plus software.
